Hey, Daymakers!
Good news! We hit the 200 backer mark yesterday and can now officially unveil the 200 backer stretch goal reward! Drumroll please...
All physical backers will be receiving, along with their books/swag, this swanky Daybreak! bookmark to help keep your place in your many rereads of issue #1!
Daybreak is so helpful!
Thanks for getting us this far, guys. I hope you'll enjoy this little token of gratitude. Do you think we can make it to the 400 backer reward? Let's find out over the next week, shall we?

UPDATE 5: Exclusive backer offer and our first recommendation!
– Thu, Jan 27, 2022 at 06:01:20 AM
Howdy, Daymakers!
First, where are my manners this morning? Thank you and welcome to all of the new backers that have joined us since our last update. It's great to have you here in Club Daybreak. In particular, I want to single out Stephen Reich, who picked up the BREAK DAYBREAK reward and will be appearing in issue #2 as a villain. We're gonna have some fun with you, Stephen, and you've got a last name that really lends itself to supervillainy (my last name lends itself well to alcoholism so we're both pretty distinct mother effers)!
We're really pleased with the way the campaign has been progressing, thank you! We're closing in on 200 backers (special reward incoming!) and are over halfway to the first stretch goal. Let's keep plugging away, Daymakers! We've got just under two weeks left, let's make them count! Every time you share the campaign, Tom (President Of New Pain) Nguyen's heart grows another size.
special offer!
So I like T-shirts, right? Who doesn't? And I like offering exclusive rewards through these updates, only for the eyes of existing backers, never to be made available again in any form once the campaign is over. So when you combine those things, can you guess what's coming next?
Allow me to introduce you to the exclusive Daybreak! "CORNER BOX" t-shirt!
The Exclusive Daybreak! "Corner Box" t-shirt!
The only way to get a shirt is through these updates (you may have heard that rumor already). All you have to do is adjust your pledge by $25, leave a comment with your size, and the New Pain team will verify and add it to your account. It will never be available again once the campaign ends (did I mention that already?). These exclusive offers are a way to add a little something special for backers and also to try to push the campaign a little closer to stretch goal territory, so we can add even more fun for you guys. It's a win/win for all of us!
And remember, anyone with a minimum pledge of $20 is also automatically entered into a raffle to win this brand new Superman Omnibus by Tomasi, Gleason, Mahnke, myself and more, at the end of the campaign. Giving 'til it hurts is all a part of New Pain!
The raffle prize!
NEW PAIN SPOTLIGHT!
Before I let you go this morning (or afternoon, or whenever you read this), I wanted to point you in the direction of Kat Calamia's new campaign, THEY CALL HER...THE DANCER! I backed this one yesterday and I like to spotlight the stuff I find cool. I'll let Kat explain her project in her own words because, I mean, she's way smarter than I am. Also, her gif game is STRONG!
"They Call Her...The Dancer is a story that focuses on the beauty and brutality of dance and martial arts, delving into the morally gray psyche of a professional dancer and assassin.
Check out these covers!
At first glance, They Call Her…The Dancer is about analyzing the similarities and differences between dance and martial arts. Dance is something that is seen as beautiful, but many don’t think about the pain that is done to one’s body to truly be a dancer. Martial arts are thought of as violent because it’s a form of “fighting”, but there’s also a dance like quality to this work of art.
Told you her Gif game is strong!
But once you dig deeper, the reader will quickly realize that The Dancer is actually a story about mental health. Mia is forced to face her own childhood trauma of witnessing her parents’ murder when she becomes the enemy that she once dedicated her life to fight against. The Dancer is a morally gray story that shows that good and evil aren’t so black and white."
Kat's campaign is for the second issue of TCH...D, but you can also pick up the first issue if you missed it. They may call her The Dancer but I just call this project awesome! It's already funded so check it out when you can. Here's the link AGAIN!
That's more than enough from me today, right? I think so. Thanks again for all the support, guys! Back soon with more updated updates!
Your pal,
Keith Champagne
Update 4: NEW REWARD ADDED!
– Fri, Jan 21, 2022 at 02:34:15 AM
Good morning, Daymakers!
Our campaign hit 175backers this morning which, y'know, is pretty cool news to discover upon logging in today! Thanks to everyone that has backed and shared this project out to the masses, your efforts really do make a difference. There's been some chatter around the New Pain offices about a special reward when we hit 200 backers so let's keep pushing and hit that milestone together.
Now that this project has funded and we know there's going to be a second issue of Daybreak!, we added a new reward to the campaign today called BREAK DAYBREAK! It's a chance to appear in the second issue as a supervillain bumping heads with our titular heroine!
Don't worry, you won't be wearing Doc Matter's hand-me-down costume, it's just a quick graphic!
The new BREAK DAYBREAK! tier also includes all three cover editions to both the first issue of Daybreak!AND the second issue of Daybreak! (spoiler alert: we have some cool variant covers planned for issue 2 also)! So, long story short, if you want to be immortalized in the world's favorite new comic book series (or know someone that does), take a second to check it out.
It's been a busy week around the New Pain compound as all the files for issue one have been compiled and are ready to send to the printer towards the second half of February, after this campaign concludes and the funding arrives from KS. Planning has officially begun on their second project/campaign to run in April, in between issues of Daybreak!
I guess there will be more about that after Daybreak! fulfills in early March and I guess I'll be the one to fill you in because I wrote this next one too (I'm cheap and easy, what can I say?).
Fun, rewarding times. Thanks for making it all happen with us!
Your pal,
Keith Champagne
UPDATE 3: FUNDED!
– Tue, Jan 18, 2022 at 02:49:30 PM
Happy Monday, Daymakers! (Thanks to David Baldy for coining the new backer nickname.)
Guess what happened to the Daybreak! campaign Saturday evening. That's right, we reached our initial funding goal! Not only that, but Stefan Tosheff whipped up a little something to say...
Muchas gracias!
We're super excited to know that our project has gone from mad idea to a reality thanks to all of your help and support! We're really grateful that so many of you have made New Pain's maiden project a reality. In fact, now that we're officially a real, honest-to-gosh comic, I sent Stefan the first batch of script pages to get the next chapter out of its starting blocks.
Also, we can start playing the stretch goal game now (which is always fun)! You may have seen on the page that the initial stretch goal (unlocked at $6000) is a free print of Ale Garza's variant cover, except naked. No, not Daybreak herself naked! Get your mind out of the gutter; what kind of hero do you think she is? We mean naked as in stripped of the New Pain trade dress and logo, so it's just the pure art. Try to imagine this piece naked:
Print, anyone?
There are 22 days left in the campaign and I think we have a better than average chance of unlocking this first stretch goal with a little more help (sharing is caring!) from all of you. Our next stretch goal is set at $8000 and will be revealed once we unlock the Ale Garza print. I'll give you a hint though: it involves comic book master Rick Leonardi.
And if you missed it the other day, don't forget that every backer with a minimum pledge of $20 is automatically entered to win this brand new Superman omnibus at the end of the campaign.
The raffle prize!
One of the best backers around, John Nacinovich, upgraded his pledge to qualify. John has won one of my raffles before so he knows what's up! Someone is getting this beast; why can't it be you?
Week two starts tomorrow, Daymakers. Let's have some fun and I'll report back later in the week with all the news that's fit to share.
Thanks for everything!
Your pal,
Keith Champagne
Update #2: backer raffle!
– Sat, Jan 15, 2022 at 06:27:35 PM
Good morning, Daybreakers! (Yeah, I guess we're sticking with that nickname).
First off, if you'd like to learn a little more about Daybreak!, my pal Peter J.Tomasi and I had a fun little conversation about the project for the website, Bleeding Cool. If that's your kind of thing, you can read the BLEEDING COOL interview here!Rich Johnston of Bleeding Cool is always very supportive of KS campaigns and I appreciate his help in getting the word out a little bit, hopefully in a fun way.
So, anyway...
We're about 80% funded this morning, guys! I mean, a little bit under that mark but for all intents and purposes, I think it's OK to round up to 80%. I mean, we're all friends here, right? Not only that, but guess what happened last night?
Yep. Daybreak! is a project Kickstarter loves! So clearly, KS has good taste!
I'd really like to get this project fully funded by the beginning of the campaign's second week. It would be nice to kick back, relax a little more, and let our stretch goal freak flags fly. So I wanted to try something to push the boulder a little more and offer you guys the opportunity to win something cool at the same time. A good, ol' fashioned raffle!
The prize? Let me show you!
The prize is pretty super!
What we're looking at here is a brand new, still-in-shrink-wrap Superman Omnibus by my pals Pete Tomasi (see how this all circles around?), Pat Gleason, Doug Mahnke and several others, (including myself), and collects their acclaimed run on the title. I don't think it includes the issues of Superman that I wrote but I could be wrong; I've never opened it to check.
This beastly tome (you could seriously kill someone with one of the omnibus collections) weighs about 6,423 pounds and retails for $125. So how do you win it? Glad you asked!
Every backer with a minimum pledge of $20 will automatically be entered to winthis Omnibus. Many of you have already pledged more than that amount of support; if so, you're already good to go. If some of you want to add a few dollars to your pledge to hit the $20 mark, you'll be entered too. The final day of the campaign (if it successfully funds of course), we'll hold a raffle and announce the winner and it'll be sent to you along with your Daybreak! swag.
If you guys think it's a fun idea, I hope you'll play along. And remember, sharing the campaign out there also goes a long way towards hitting the funding goal. I really appreciate all the help and support.
